Estate Planning and Guardianship Attorneys

At Gebhardt & Kiefer, P.C., our attorneys are experienced in the fields of elder law and estate planning. Elder law involves, among other things, issues such as planning for incapacity, planning for financial security, and preservation of assets in anticipation of nursing home admission.

The attorneys at Gebhardt & Kiefer, P.C. represent geriatric clients, as well as children or spouses of geriatric clients who have assumed the role of caregivers. Our goal is to be your family's trusted legal professional, helping you in both planning and crisis modes. If you need assistance with your elder law concerns, contact our Hunterdon County law firm by e-mail. We represent individuals throughout New Jersey, including Hunterdon, Somerset, Warren and Mercer Counties.

Competent Representation

Some of the services we provide include:

  • Asset protection and tax planning: Our lawyers create sophisticated estate planning documents, such as irrevocable trusts and life insurance trusts, that are used to preserve assets and minimize the impact of estate and gift taxes. Without a plan, long-term care expenses can consume the assets that could otherwise pass to your children and grandchildren.
  • Planning for Medicaid eligibility: Our lawyers represent individuals and families in appropriate circumstances to secure family assets and financial well-being.
  • Seeking or avoiding guardianship: Guardianship is necessary when a parent or spouse lacks the capacity to manage his or her personal financial affairs. Our law firm can guide you through the New Jersey guardianship process. We can also help you avoid the need for guardianship through the timely execution of a power of attorney.
  • Managing finances through a conservatorship: Conservatorships are used to enable persons to legally designate others to assist them with their financial affairs. Unlike a guardianship proceeding, the appointment of a conservator is voluntary and does not require an adjudication by the court as to the incapacity of the conservatee.

Our elder law team consists of Mark ChazinJohn Manfreda, and Lori MacWilliami.
