Divorce is Topic of Men’s Discussion Group

The next meeting of a men’s discussion group focusing on divorce will be held on Tues., June 26, 2018 from 6:30 pm until 8 pm at the office of Safe Harbor Child Access Centers, 171 Main St. (2nd floor) in Flemington.  The group is for men who are separated, divorced, or going through a divorce.  This is a unique opportunity for men to hear from others, and to provide their own perspectives to other men who are dealing with these issues.  The program will be moderated by family law attorney William Rudnik of Gebhardt & Kiefer, P.C., certified financial planner Craig Hyldahl of R.I.C.H. Planning Group, LLC, and Carol Dvoor of Safe Harbor.  Food and beverages will be provided.  Although not required, please RSVP to Mr. Rudnik at 908-735-5161 so proper arrangements can be made for food and beverages.

Gov. Christine Todd Whitman will give the keynote address at the Hunterdon County Bar Association’s 2018 Law Day Celebration on May 21 at 6 PM at the Historic Courthouse in Flemington. The event is co-sponsored by the NJ State Bar Foundation. Many thanks to Diana Fredericks, who secured Gov. Whitman as a speaker.

John Manfreda has been reappointed to serve another 3-year term on the Board of Trustees of the Greater Middlesex/Somerset Estate Planning Council. He has served on the Board continuously since 1988. He also served twice as Council President, for a combined total of 14 years during that time.

Free Estate Planning Seminar

John Manfreda will present a free Estate Planning seminar on May 1 from 7 - 9 PM at the North County Branch of the Hunterdon County Library in Clinton.  Mr. Manfreda will address topics such as marital tax planning, estate planning for blended families, general durable powers of attorney, and living wills. He will also discuss the 2018 Tax Reform Act, which affects the federal estate tax, as well as the current state of the New Jersey Inheritance Tax and the repeal of the New Jersey Estate Tax as of January 1, 2018.  Seating is limited; please reserve a space via the library’s website or by calling 908-730-6135.

On April 19, Mark Chazin attended the Board of Directors meeting for the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP).  During the meeting, the Board discussed implementation of its strategic plan for 2018-2020.  The SCBP provides critical business resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy on behalf of the business community.  As a public-private partnership, the organization receives support from the Somerset County Freeholders to provide economic development and workforce services, and also receives a grant from the NJ Dept. of Tourism to promote Somerset County as a destination.  Mr. Chazin is a former chairman of the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce, which is the predecessor organization of the SCBP, and has been a member of the Board for over 25 years.  He is also an active member of the SCPB Finance Committee.

On April 17, Mark Chazin attended the Board of Directors meeting of the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon & Warren Counties.  Mr. Chazin is a Past President and has been a member of the Board for more than 10 years, and he also serves on the Federation’s Executive Committee.

Valliere, Esq.  Mr. Valliere concentrates his practice on civil litigation, primarily insurance defense, personal injury, and municipal law.  Prior to joining us, he worked as an in-house trial attorney for two top-tier insurance companies. Mr. Valliere received his J.D. degree from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law.

Mark Chazin joined Senator Kip Bateman, Raritan Valley Community College President Michael McDonough, and a group of 10 other NJ legislators and community college presidents, along with Jewish Federation leaders and staff members, on a mission to Israel from March 7 through March 16.  Sponsored by the NJ State Association of Jewish Federations, the mission was designed to inform and educate NJ legislators and academic leaders about the state of affairs in Israel.  Participants visited historical and religious sites, and attended information sessions with members of the Knesset (Israel’s parliament).  They also met with university educators, high-tech business entrepreneurs, and the senior advisor to the U.S. Ambassador.

Bill Rudnik served as a judge for the 2018 Hunterdon County High School Mock Trial Competition, which took place Jan. 20 – 25.  Participating schools included Delaware Valley Regional High School, North Hunterdon High School, and Voorhees High School, with Voorhees winning the competition this year.  The annual competition is sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation and the Hunterdon County Bar Association.
