Divorce Discussion Group for Men

The next meeting of a men’s discussion group focusing on divorce will be held on Tues., June 20, 2017 from 6:30 pm until 8 pm at the office of Safe Harbor Child Access Centers, 18 Parker Avenue in Flemington.  The group is for men who are separated or divorced, or who are going through a divorce.  This is a unique opportunity for men to hear from others, and to provide their own perspectives to other men who are dealing with these issues.  The program will be moderated by family law attorney William Rudnik of Gebhardt & Kiefer, P.C., certified financial planner Craig Hyldahl of R.I.C.H. Planning Group, LLC, and Carol Dvoor of Safe Harbor.  Food and beverages will be provided.  Although not required, please RSVP to Mr. Rudnik at 908-735-5161 so proper arrangements can be made for food and beverages.

Free Estate Planning Seminar

John Manfreda will present an estate planning program at the North County Branch Library in Clinton on June 15 at 7:00 pm. Topics will include general estate planning concepts and techniques, issues pertaining to joint ownership of assets, NJ estate tax issues, federal estate and gift tax issues, and estate planning for blended families. Mr. Manfreda will also cover beneficiary designations for life insurance and retirement plans, powers of attorney and living wills, Medicaid qualification, and healthcare issues. A portion of the program will include a discussion of college funding in the context of gift tax planning for children and grandchildren. A question and answer session will follow. On May 4, Tara St. Angelo served as a presenter at the Rutgers University Public Purchasing Educational Forum in Atlantic City.  Ms. St. Angelo discussed the benefits and pitfalls of incorporating social media into government purchasing.

On May 18 during the NJ State Bar Association (NJSBA) annual meeting, Diana Fredericks was sworn in for another term as a Trustee representing Hunterdon County.  Ms. Fredericks also participates in the NJSBA Family Law Section, the Young Lawyers Division, and graduated from the NJSBA Leadership Academy.

The Somerset County Bar Foundation will hold its annual 5k fundraiser, “The Legal Runaround,” on May 25.  The event will also include a 3k Walk, as well as music, food and giveaways. Gebhardt & Kiefer is a supporting sponsor.  Attorney Tara St. Angelo, a trustee of the Foundation, is helping to coordinate the event.

On May 3, the Hunterdon County Bar Association (HCBA) will hold its annual Law Day event at the Historic Courthouse in Flemington from 6 – 8 pm.  This year’s theme is “The 14th Amendment -Transforming American Democracy.”  The guest speaker is Earl Martz, Distinguished Professor of Law from Rutgers University School of Law and author of two books and more than 50 articles on constitutional law, statutory interpretation, the role of the courts, and legal history.  Gebhardt & Kiefer partner Diana Fredericks, president of the HCBA, will conduct the opening ceremony.  This free event is open to the public.

Diana Fredericks served as a panelist at the Hunterdon County Bar Association’s “Celebrating Women in the Law” event on May 2 at Beaver Brook Country Club.  The keynote speaker was Retired NJ Supreme Court Justice Virginia Long.  Gebhardt & Kiefer supported the event as a dessert sponsor.

April 28, Mark Chazin attended a meeting of the Raritan Valley Community College Accounting & Financial Services Advisory Committee.  This volunteer committee provides input on the school’s accounting and finance programs and curriculum in relation to the needs of the business community.  Mr. Chazin also serves on the RVCC Foundation’s Estate Planning Advisory Committee.

On April 20, Mark Chazin attended the Board of Directors meeting for the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP).  During the meeting, the Board unveiled its new Employer Toolkit, a collection of resources to help Somerset County employers  attract and retain a talented workforce.  The Board also discussed strategic plan updates.  Mr. Chazin is a former chairman of the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce, which is the predecessor organization of the SCBP, and has been a member of the Board for over 25 years.  He is also an active member of the SCPB Finance Committee.

Congratulations to Diana Fredericks, who received the President's Volunteer Service Award for 100+ hours of community service. The award, which was presented at the United Way of Hunterdon County's Volunteer Awards Ceremony on April 25, 2017, was established by President Obama to recognize people for their commitment to strengthen our nation and communities through volunteer service.

Leslie Parikh will speak about local government ethics law at the Municipal Clerks’ Association of NJ 2017 Education Conference in Somerset, NJ on April 25.  Ms. Parikh is available to present similar seminars pertaining to municipal government, ethics, and employment law upon request.

2017 Super Lawyers®

Congratulations to the six Gebhardt & Kiefer attorneys who were named to the 2017 Super Lawyers® lists!  Partners Richard Cushing, William Goodwin, and John Manfreda were selected to the 2017 NJ Super Lawyers list, and partner Diana Fredericks and associates Daniel Makoski and Tara St. Angelo were selected to the 2017 NJ Super Lawyers Rising Stars list (which honors top attorneys who are 40 years old or younger and who have been practicing for ten years or less).

The Super Lawyers lists are issued by Thomson Reuters, which rates lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection methodology is described on the Super Lawyers website.

Diana Fredericks attended the 2nd Annual Common Colors Women’s Forum on March 25 at the Clinton Holiday Inn.  The event brought together women and supporters of Color It Forward, Inc. for an evening of empowerment, celebration, and enlightenment. Gebhardt & Kiefer also donated a ticket to enable another woman to attend the event.

Free Webinar on Divorce

If you are considering divorce, you are invited to join Diana Fredericks, Esq. for an informative and interactive free webinar about the divorce process in New Jersey.  Learn how the divorce process works and what you should expect as your divorce proceeds through the NJ court system.  The webinar will be offered twice on Thurs., Feb. 2 at 12:30 PM and 6:00 PM.

William Rudnik volunteered his time to serve as an attorney/coach for Hopewell Valley Central High School’s mock trial team.  The mock trial competition took place on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.

Diana Fredericks will join the Board of Trustees of the New Jersey State Bar Association.  She will fill the Hunterdon County Trustee position vacated by Haekyoung Suh, who left the Board after being appointed a Superior Court judge.  Ms. Fredericks is also the current president of the Hunterdon County Bar Association.
